Sensei Rick Duffy

Sensei Rick Duffy is a 6th degree black belt with over 25 years of experience in martial arts. He has been the chief instructor of his dojo for nearly 20 years in Rancho Cucamonga. His way of teaching is unique in that he focuses primarily on the character traits that are established through quality martial arts training. Sensei Duffy believes that it is essential to maintain mental and physical fitness through daily martial arts training. He uses a non militant, respectful approach to teaching the martial arts. He teaches his students to lead by example, and that it takes giving respect in order to gain respect. This makes learning the martial arts a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Mission Statement

At Universal Martial Arts Centers,we strive to stay on the cutting edge of Martial arts instruction by providing a clean safe atmosphere, and a friendly, family environment. Our goal is to help each person who enters our facility to see the possibilities of unlocking their hidden potential through martial arts training. Students will learn to master themselves through the practice of Karate. This will include not only discipline honed through focused training. The goal of UMAC training is to develop the talents of all students and to instill in them the desire to be the best martial artist possible, while not compromising the high degree of respect, and humbleness expected within the martial arts. Furthermore, UMAC promotes karate as self defense, not aggression. This is based upon the traditional "Dojo Kun" or code , which states that the true martial artist should:

Seek perfection of character in training the mind and spirit;

Be faithful, to oneself as well as the sensei, dojo and other teachers;

Endeavor, to always do one's best;

Respect others, as well as strive to be respected;

Refrain from violent behavior, for the practice of karate is to defend, not to be the aggressor.
